Four season boot for mid - high altitude trekking and winter walking. Lined with eVent waterproof & breathable lining.
New from Kayland this year, the futuristic-looking Apex Trek is the successor to the highly acclaimed Super Trek.
Improved features include, a carbon reinforced heel counter for greater support and lateral stability, a new ankle lock system that utilizes a free-floating support strap positioned above the ankle to anchor the heel in the heel cup, and a lace lock system that allows an optimum fit.
The B1/B2 rated Apex Trek will take a crampon with a flexible linking bar and is ideal for multi-day backpacking on mixed terrain at medium altitudes.
For those looking for a slightly stiffer boot, the B2 rated Apex Rock will fit the bill.
Both models are available in a women's fit.
"TGO" magazine, December 2007 gave the Kayland Apex Trek Woman "Recommended" status.

This is a high, semi-stiff boot that still manages to feel responsive. It was instantly comfortable, with the boot hugging the whole foot without ever feeling restrictive or sloppy. It's medium volume with a roomy toe box so will suit a wide range of foot shapes. The heel cup is particularly good, aided by the floating support strap just above the ankle that anchors both heel and ankle (like the boot, new this year). The bellowed tongue is tall but well padded and the combination of textile and leather is soft and supple. Underfoot grip and support are excellent, with an all-round rubber and plastic rand. There is a tiny heel ledge but I felt safer using crampons with front and rear harnesses. Apex Trek feels fairly light on the feet and for its intended use - four season mid to high altitude trekking - it's superb. It is easily stiff enough for low grade climbing and alpinism but this may compromise comfort when walking below the snowline.
